Billy Carson Responds!

SightSpeed has had lots of great reviews about its video conferencing service and we encourage our readers to read them. However, one of our readers, Billy Carson (pictured above), a newly-minted freshman at Boston College, wasn't too pleased about today's SightSpeed release. He wrote in and annotated the press release that SightSpeed issued relating to "kids-off-to-college" marketing. The full release with Billy's annotations (in bold) are below. We do think SiteSpeed is in tune with the college kids, judging from our last entry about the SightSpeed tip of the month.

SightSpeed Press Release with Billy Carson annotations in bold:

Kids off to College? There's No Need to Say Goodbye with SightSpeed; Talk Face-to Face without Leaving Home or School

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 29, 2006--Remember the days when kids went off to college and weren't seen again for weeks and months at a time? Yes, leaving the nest is a rite of passage, and it makes those Thanksgiving hugs bigger and tighter. I'm free. My parents are worry-free and they can each leave their respective homes and travel by themselves with my step parents. Besides, if I were to see my parents all the time, why go home to see them? This all-presence-all-the-time stuff is getting wacky.

Those days are over now that more and more families have access to broadband Internet service and web cams, making video conferencing mainstream at the office and at home. I get the sense you want to put a webcam in my bedroom.

Due to the proliferation of broadband Internet access around the world wowwwww video conferencing has exploded as a new means of communicating, enabling people to stay in touch without leaving home. Sometimes ya just gotta get off the couch and get out. In 2005, video conferencing sales reached $500 million. Dude, so what? Today, the video conferencing industry anticipates $8 billion in sales by 2008, opening up opportunities for companies like SightSpeed Inc. SightSpeed You really shouldn't end a sentence and start a new sentence with the name of your company. is the leading provider of free and premium personal video Yep, you want a webcam in my bedroom. This is gettin' weird. services over the Internet.

"Video conferencing picks up where email, instant messaging and phones leave off, connecting people in a whole new way over the Internet with face to face discussions as if you're in the same room," said SightSpeed CEO Peter Csathy. "SightSpeed's best in class I'm looking forward to grade inflation, too. services bring people together in a more personal way -- visually. Quick, somebody call that NBC DateLine guy Chris Hansen. While on a SightSpeed video call, students can see what's happening at home Uhh, the same thing happens every day at home. and parents can see what's really happening with their kids in their dorm rooms or apartments at college YO, GET THE EFF OUTTA HERE!!!!!!! NO EFFING WAY!!!!!!!!! What if it's my roommate's bong and not mine?!! ...In all seriousness, your use of "what's really happening" is insulting and goofy. You don't get that advantage or level of personal interaction when talking via email or by phone." Who can talk via email?

SightSpeed is no exception to the video conferencing explosion. Dude, what does that mean? Come to college with me and take a writing class. From July 2005 to July 2006, the company has experienced the following:

-- The number of average daily new registered users increased 260 percent Sounds obfuscating. Can't you say, "New users increased 260%"?

-- The number of average daily video calls increased 396 percent Are you trying to hide something?

-- The number of average daily video mails increased 352 percent Ok, that's it, I'm calling the Columbo of Conferencing, Elliot Gold, on this one. Something smells fishy and worthy of an entire issue of TeleSpan.

Please visit www.sightspeed.com or call . Can my freshman-orientation buds and I give you a video-call at your homes and meet your families? We have some good jokes from last night's keg party. And we want to see what's really happening in your homes.
